Visiting Australia’s national institutions is a must-do on your Canberra itinerary. Attend the moving Last Post Ceremony at the Australian War Memorial, daily at 4:55pm. Discover Australian stories at the National Museum of Australia and find out more about Australia’s political history at the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House.
Hike up a mountain
Not only will you feel energised from a walk up one of Canberra’s mountains, you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views from the top, and perhaps see some native wildlife on the way. There are several options close to the city centre including Mount Ainslie, a popular spot for picture perfect views over Canberra, or take a walk along one of the tracks on Black Mountain where, once at the summit, you can take an elevator ride in the 195m Telstra Tower for 360 degree views around Canberra and the surrounding mountain range. A hike up Red Hill provides views of many of Canberra’s national attractions. After all that exercise, treat yourself with a coffee and a light meal along with picturesque views, at Little Brother cafe at the lookout.
See Canberra by bicycle
Cycling is a big part of Canberra culture, with the city well set up for cyclists. Bicycles are available for hire at the hotel, with helmets, making it easy to explore Canberra on its extensive network of cycle paths. Rainforest Gully Walk at the Australian National Botanic Gardens
On hot summer days, a stroll along the boardwalks through the Rainforest Gully is a marvelously cooling experience, with the chance to see a variety of birds. The Australian National Botanic Gardens also offers a number of other walks through a variety of themed garden sections, including the Red Centre Garden and the Rock Garden.
