Exciting festivals and events
Visit Canberra throughout the year and you’re bound to find an exciting event or festival to go to. In winter, enjoy the ultimate foodie festival celebrating the black winter truffle with The Truffle Festival, Canberra Region.
With spring comes the annual Floriade Festival, being held in Commonwealth Park, only a 1km walk from Crowne Plaza Canberra, from Saturday 16 September until Sunday 15 October 2017. This month-long event is celebrating its 30th year in 2017, with garden beds including over one million blooms and a great program of events inspired by this year’s theme, Rejuvenation. Entry during the day is free throughout the festival. Nightfest, the paid ticketed evening event, is being held over two weekends in 2017. Find out more here.
In summer, enjoy Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebrations in the city, followed by the Summernats festival in early January. In February, enjoy flavours from around the world with the National Multicultural Festival.
With the changing colours around the city that autumn brings, you’ll find an exciting calendar of events throughout March, including the sight of beautiful hot air balloons with the Canberra Balloon Spectacular and the evening festival, Enlighten, with the Night Noodle Markets, light projections, entertainment and more.
Arts and culture
With such a large number of national attractions, Canberra offers a year-round program of diverse art, history and culture exhibitions. The National Portrait Gallery, the National Gallery of Australia, the National Library of Australia and the National Museum of Australia are all located close to Crowne Plaza Canberra and have permanent and temporary exhibitions hosted throughout the year. There are also many smaller galleries, museums and historical places of interest to visit during your stay.
The great outdoors
Canberra is a beautiful city with many open spaces and with National Parks located close by. Explore Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, where you can see native animals in their natural habitat or hike in Namadgi National Park. The Australian National Botanic Gardens is located close to the city centre and has a number of accessible walks, along with a cafe and day spa.
A popular activity for locals and visitors is walk around Lake Burley Griffin from ‘bridge to bridge’ or hire a bicycle from the hotel and cycle around the Lake!

Purchase a coffee from a local coffee roaster and enjoy a freshly cooked pastry, while browsing the many stalls which stock smallgoods, vegetables, local olive oil, honey and more.
Canberra has become well known for good coffee, with a number of local roasters, such as Lonsdale Street Roasters and Ona Coffee, creating outstanding blends and also offering single origin coffee.
